Application Process

Once you have confirmed that you meet the selection criteria for a Building Baja’s Future (BBF) scholarship, you are free to apply for a BBF scholarship at any time.

Candidates

Building Baja’s Future (BBF) scholarships are awarded to individuals who demonstrate commitment, are in need of financial aid, and demonstrate good character and merit. Merit is demonstrated through leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed.

Obligations as a BBF Scholar

Candidates selected to receive a BBF scholarship must:

  • Complete their college career in the stipulated time by the program at their school.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 8.5 (out of 10) each quarter or semester through the completion of their selected academic career.
  • Complete their college career in the stipulated time by the program at the school of their choice.
  • Deliver school records to the BBF Director at the end of each quarter or semester.
  • Complete a minimum of 60 hours of community service each academic year. BBF scholars must deliver a letter from the service institution detailing the hours completed and the nature of the community service involvement.
  • The community service must be completed during the academic year and must be pre-approved by the BBF Director.
  • Attend a minimum of two (2) hours of English lessons per week on Saturdays. English classes are organized by BBF.
  • Participate in all BBF activities as long as there are no conflicts with the academic schedule and obligations. The BBF Director must approve any absences to BBF activities.
  • The BBF scholarship is granted for one year only. It will be renewed if the BBF Scholar meets all of the BBF Scholar obligations. The BBF may cancel a student’s scholarship if deemed necessary at any point during the academic year if the recipient fails to meet required standards and his or her obligations.

Selection Criteria and BBF Requirements

The Building Baja’s Future (BBF) scholarships are awarded based on need, character, personal merit, potential and commitment.

Criteria

  • Need is investigated through a socio economic research.
  • Level of knowledge and preparation is evaluated with a standardized test
  • Merit is demonstrated through leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed.
  • Character is portrayed through a survey, essay and personal interview.
  • Potential is outweighed in a vocational seminar and group sessions.
  • Commitment is identified through-out the process.

If a candidate is accepted into BBF, the scholarship will cover 100% of his or her college tuition and other programs and activities organized by the BBF.

Candidates must meet the following BBF Scholar Requirements:

  • Prove financial need.
  • Complete high school with a minimum grade point average of 9 (out of 10).
  • Exhibit proof of leadership in school and the community.
  • Have a desire to attend college and seek a higher education.
  • Be willing to individually contribute to the community and the BBF.
  • Be a role model to other BBF Scholars, classmates and the community.

Application Instructions - How to Apply

Once an applicant has confirmed that he or she has met the selection criteria for a Building Baja’s Future (BBF) scholarship, students are free to apply for a BBF scholarship at any time. The deadline for the upcoming academic year is March 30th. This date is in effect every year.

Read the application carefully. Complete all sections of the application in black ink by hand or typewritten. Your application must be signed with the date it is delivered at the BBF office.

Attach a recent passport-size photograph to your application.

Provide a copy of your high-school transcript. The GPA should be 9.0 or above.

Provide a recommendation letter from one of your teachers.

Deliver all of the documents to the BBF office (open from 9:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs Monday through Friday and from 9:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs on Saturdays) located at:

Applicants are encouraged to deliver the application personally.

Selection Process

Candidates who submit an application and fulfill all of the BBF Scholar Requirements will be invited for an in-person interview with the BBF Director.

A selected group of candidates will be asked to take an aptitude test and attend a Vocational Seminar prior to being admitted into the BBF Program.

BBF scholars will be notified no later than June 15th if they have been awarded a BBF scholarship.
